Ollie Irene is a gastro pub opened last year in Mountain Brook. Despite being labeled a “gastro pub” (a description that rings of hipster pretension) I very often enjoy my meals here thoroughly. Indeed, in February, Ollie Irene became one of 29 semifinalists for the James Beard award for best new restaurant in the country. Russell and I went there on a pleasant June evening and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. To wit:

I started with their house made gnocchi with a basil pesto and pancetta. Delish. I enjoyed it more than the previous preparations I had there.

For my entree, I got the Duroc pork chop topped with Chilton County peaches and served with local field peas. I forget what exactly was in the jus, but the whole thing worked.
